EXCLUSIVE FULL INTERVIEW: Obama on the World | The New York Times – YouTube.
oh thank you, had not had a chance to watch this yet..
It got me thinking that the whole partitioning of nation-states in the ME is an imposition of colonial will that has little to do with grass-root aspirations there and has contributed to the miseries of today.
As Benedict Anderson stated in his “Imagined Communities:Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism”*, nation-states are imagined communities of relatively recent date, rather than eternal or inevitable realities.
It is not too much of s stretch to imagine a future ME that disintegrates its (artificial) national boundaries and reconfigures itself along more tribal lines, reforming as a loose confederation of states, much as the US was once envisioned.
